Easter Homecoming

I wrote this short story last year for an anthology submission, but it was not accepted, so it has languished on my PC for a while.

A serene watercolor landscape depicting a small town nestled in the hills, featuring a church with a tall steeple, quaint houses, and a river reflecting the light of the setting sun.

The story is near future dystopian – what if the US fell apart? How would the different states approach life and how would towns protect themselves and provide basic needs? What happens when others learn about these amenities and decide to take them for themselves? And what happens when families are split apart and brothers find themselves starting across the battle line at each other? The story dealt with themes of societal collapse and cultural bad manners. If you have hair triggers, this isn’t the story for you.
